Caller: 37-year old woman calling on behalf of her neighbor
Problem: Alcohol addiction
Seeking: Non-traditional drug and alcohol recovery programs
Reason(s): The woman is concerned about her neighbor who may be struggling with alcohol addiction. She states that when she moved into her apartment nine months ago, she believed her neighbor to be a social drinker. However, as the weather got nicer and her neighbor spent more and more time outside in the yard, she began to realize that her neighbor not only drank a lot, but also regularly drank to excess. The woman states, “I have heard him snore loudly before, he was just passed out on his hammock and nothing I could do would wake him up. He recently managed to cut himself on his own sliding glass door. What happened is that he managed to put his hands through the glass because he was too drunk to realize what he was doing.” According to the woman, that is the moment she decided to step in and sit her neighbor down for a discussion about possible alcohol addiction. The woman says, “I really did not believe I had a right to judge him, but I wanted him to know that there was someone who cares and who wants him to get help. I promised him that I would be the one to look for help if he stopped drinking. I am not sure if he is keeping his side of the bargain, but I want him to get help if it is available.” She is looking for non-traditional drug and alcohol recovery programs capable of treating moderate to severe alcoholism.
