Caller: 44-year old man calling on behalf of 35-year old brother-in-law
Problem: Alcohol addiction
Seeking: Treatment options and methods to get him to go
Reason(s): The caller is requesting information about potential long-term, inpatient treatment options for alcohol addiction. The caller is asking about treatment for his brother-in-law who got married to the caller’s sister within the last twelve months. Caller said, “He drinks way too damn much, he drinks so much that he blacks out and doesn’t even remember where he finally wakes up. Now the truth is that if he wants to risk his own life and drink himself stupid, that is all right with me. However, the problem is that my sister already has a five-year old son from a previous relationship, and I don’t need him setting that kind of example around him.” Even though there has been no indication of physical violence after the consumption of alcohol, the caller is worried that continued abuse is eventually going to lead to future problems. The caller said, “It is very simple, until he gets off the booze he should not be there for a while and work on himself. I believe that he going somewhere to do that is the perfect idea. After discussing it with my sister I know that she agrees, but I also understand that she is not necessarily comfortable making that first call.” He wants possible inpatient treatment options to present to both his sister and brother-in-law.
