Caller: 24-year-old man calling on behalf of 22-year-old girlfriend
Problem: Xanax addiction
Seeking: Biophysical detox program
Reason(s): Caller is a 24-year-old male calling about possible treatment for his 22-year-old girlfriend. According to the caller, his girlfriend is showing signs of addiction to Xanax. The caller said, “I know she was prescribed Xanax for her anxiety, but she goes through it so quickly that she ends up buying it from friends to self-medicate.” According to him, the person struggling with a Xanax addiction uses a months’ supply in a little less than two weeks. “When she runs out of Xanax and does not have people that can sell her any, she turns into a totally different person, an angry, mean, violent person; it is like her fuse is just short and she does not have any energy to deal with things”. After looking up the symptoms of Xanax withdrawal online, the boyfriend says he realized that there was a problem. He stated, “She runs out of Xanax for about a week, maybe a little longer if she can’t buy any from friends, and then when she can fill her prescription again she pops them like they are candy. Every time I try to approach her about it, she just shuts down the conversation. Because of the addictive nature of the Xanax pills and the dangerous side effects of withdrawal, he would prefer some form of biophysical detoxification where his girlfriend would have qualified personnel to provide assistance if necessary.
