Caller: 47-year old dad calling regarding 16-year old daughter
Problem: Marijuana addiction
Seeking: Treatment options available
Reason(s): Dad is requesting help with his underage, teenage daughter. As the sole provider and as the only custodian, he says he knows it falls upon him to make a difference in his daughter’s life. He said that since his daughter has been experimenting with marijuana, she has not been the same person she was before. He said, “I know that teenagers change, that is no surprise to me, but she has started missing family functions and can’t even be bothered to show up for dinner anymore. I swear, if I did not chase her to school every day I feel she would just lay around the house and do nothing.” Caller states he does not know whether her social circle is to blame, whether she is rebelling against his parental supervision, or if she is simply going through a phase – but he wants it to stop. The caller is worried about the gateway effect, stating, “I know pot is only going to make her lazy, as long as she does not drive and doesn’t get caught with it, there are probably no health risks. However, I do not want her to move onto some other drug and try something more serious just because I did not step in when she was smoking pot.”
