Caller: 33-year-old man calling about 29-year-old friend
Problem: Addiction to crystal meth
Seeking: Holistic treatment in an inpatient facility
Reason(s): The caller is seeking treatment for a friend who is addicted to crystal meth. He stated that his friend has made it obvious that he wants to seek treatment, but is unsure where to start. According to the caller, the person with a crystal meth addiction wants to stop using but needs to learn “how to live normal again.” According to the caller, the drug has become his friend’s way to escape boredom, discomfort and provides a constant escape. “He smokes crystal meth all the time, when he needs to be alert, when he is tired, when he is sad, when he is happy, when he is in a good mood, when he is upset, I doubt he would even know how to pass the time if he stopped using right now.” He wants his friend to seek rehab that would only use holistic treatments (caller said it makes no sense to ‘drug him up’ further). He also wants the type of treatment that has him staying in the facility around-the-clock to minimize the chances of relapse. The caller was provided with a phone number to a biophysical drug treatment facility, which offers long-term, inpatient treatment. Caller will call back within the next three days for more information.
