Caller: 40-year old mother calling regarding teenage son
Problem: Methamphetamine addiction
Seeking: Treatment options for meth
Reason(s): According to the mother, her son used to be the ideal teen at one point. She said that he had plenty of friends, always got good grades, and was involved in athletics, as well. She stated that when her son tried marijuana or drank a little bit of alcohol at parties she thought it was “just what teenagers do.” However, she said she noticed that he had become increasingly paranoid over the past few months; he had also lost interest in athletics, something that once consumed most of his day. The mom said that she and her husband never once suspected meth could have been the reason. The caller stated, “The mood swings should have been a sign, we should have never ignored the fact that he did not sleep much and was losing weight fast.” According to the caller, the reason the problem could no longer be ignored was that the behavior at school had turned violent. The caller said, “Honestly I think it might be a blessing in disguise. No one got hurt, he may have been suspended from school but it made both me and my husband realize that something needs to be done right now”. Because of the incredibly addictive potency of methamphetamine and because their son is still young, the parents are willing to try whatever program comes recommended.
