Caller: 36-year old husband calling on behalf of his wife
Problem: Addiction to Xanax
Seeking: Long term drug rehab options
Reason(s): Husband began by saying “You know the type of person that you look at and would not be surprised if they used drugs or alcohol in excess? That is the exact opposite of my wife.” According to him, his wife has been abusing prescription Xanax that she buys from friends who have children that have a legitimate prescription. The caller said that his wife’s store on Etsy, had been doing increasingly well and in order to keep up with the challenges of being a wife, taking care of the household and running an online store all at the same time, she felt as though she needed a little boost. According to the caller, she had been increasingly tired, almost ‘rundown’ over the past few months before she got the first Xanax from a friend. Caller stated, “I am alright with her grabbing a Red Bull in the morning to get going, but when she starts messing around with prescription drugs that were not prescribed for her, you are entering dangerous territory at that point.” He stated that his wife was unwilling to seek out treatment initially, but after making it clear that it would either be divorce or drug rehabilitation, she agreed to look for help. He and his wife are seeking a long-term option that would provide the best possible odds of maintaining lasting sobriety.
