Caller: 41-year old man calling on behalf of his partner
Problem: Alcohol addiction
Seeking: Long-term treatment with individual counseling
Reason(s): The man is concerned that his partner is once again falling into deep-rooted, destructive behavior. He stated when he and his partner met for their third date; they both decided that they would tell one another their most uncomfortable secret. He stated, “I told him about my history of physical abuse from my stepdad, and he told me that he had issues with addiction before. Even though my own story was rough, I could not believe that I was actually falling for someone who struggled with a heroin addiction in the past.” He states that he believes that the heroin addiction has been dealt with in some form, but another problem is surfacing in recent months. According to the man, his partner has been drinking himself into a stupor for more than six months now, several times a week. He states, “At first you can just tell yourself that someone is having a hard day, or wants to celebrate when something good happens. However, when it continues for so long and you have to clean vomit out of your carpet and they cannot remember what happened, you know that something else is going on altogether.” He is concerned that his partner has replaced one addiction with another, and he wants to find long-term treatment options that can actually get to the underlying root cause of these dependency issues.
