Caller: 38-year old man calling on behalf of his wife
Problem: Cocaine addiction
Seeking: Long term inpatient rehab program
Reason(s): The man wants to help his wife make a lasting change in her life. According to the caller, Child Protective Services took their daughter from them and they may never be granted custody. He said, “My wife has struggled with a cocaine addiction for years now. When we had our daughter, I figured that bringing a child into the world might be enough to help, enough to get her to sober up, but it never did. She certainly decreased use during the pregnancy, but according to the doctors, my daughter may have lasting trauma because of the use during pregnancy.” He admits that while he does not actively use illicit substances, he feels as though he is responsible for the problem, at least in part. He said, “I am not the one using, but I cannot blame this on her. I have been flat out told that I might never see my daughter again. I might never hold her in my arms again. That is something I have to deal with for the rest of my life, my lack of action might have cost me my daughter. However, I cannot …I will not have this be for nothing. I cannot picture a world where I lost my daughter and nothing changes.” He is seeking a long-term rehabilitation program for his wife. He said that he is worried about her physical and mental health because of years of drug abuse and this traumatic event. He wants a program where she can go and take as long as it takes to get her clean and sober.
