Caller: 42-year old woman calling on behalf of her son
Problem: Xanax (Alprazolam)
Seeking: Detox program that also one on one counseling in a drug rehab treatment
Reason(s): After having a long sit-down conversation with her son, a distraught mother is seeking help for her son’s issues with Xanax. The woman suggests that her son admits to self-medicating for stress and anxiety, but neither party has a good idea of how to stop the abuse. The caller said, “I would just pull him out of school and keep him home, but I read that a sudden stop when it comes to this type of medication may be extremely dangerous.” The caller said that she realized that something was wrong while she was cleaning her son’s room. She stumbled across a pill bottle with someone elses’ name on it. After confronting her son, he readily admitted to having abused Xanax, something that he suggests lets him be ‘himself’ in social situations. The caller also states that she found out her son tried to stop using altogether a few months ago, but he experienced panic attacks and even heard that seizures were a possibility. The caller said, “I want to make sure that we get him help the right way, which to me is not just about getting this stuff out of his system, but also means that we make sure that he understands that there are other ways to deal with this type of stress that he is feeling”.
