Caller: Mother calling regarding her son
Problem: Marijuana addiction
Seeking: Outpatient treatment or better options available
Reason(s): Caller is a mother on behalf of her son. According to the caller, her son graduated from high school, but has been unable to find a job and has not shown any interest in going to college. According to her, the only thing that he does is sit around the house throughout the day, smoke copious amounts of marijuana, watch movies, and plays video games. She said “It has gotten to the point where it is beyond ridiculous, he sleeps throughout most of the day, gets up in the afternoon, sits around and plays video games, naps after dinner and then stays up most nights till about 4 or 5 in the morning”. The caller says that her son’s behavior has caused a great deal of tension between her and her husband and arguments have gotten more intense over the course of the last few weeks. While her husband is willing to evict their son, she wants to give him a chance to get his life back together. “I just want him to have ambition, to get off the couch and get out of his bed and actually do something. However, I know that as long as he keeps smoking marijuana, this is not going to happen. With a fresh start, he may be able to turn his life around” – she said. The mom stated she would prefer outpatient treatment if possible, but understands that if other treatments work better, she would certainly consider that.
