Caller: Sister of 42 year old woman
Problem: Valium, Oxycodone and Percocet addiction
Seeking: A successful alternative to 12 step therapy
Reason(s): She has three boys (ages 12, 10, and 6) and one daughter (age 15) and a husband of 19 years. She has been to the emergency for overdosing four times in a little over a year. Husband and sister are in fear that she will kill herself one day; and the husband is considering leaving with their children.
She had a back injury at work four years ago, and was prescribed Percocet to cope with her back pain. Now she uses up to 30 Percocet’s, Oxycodone’s or any other powerful pain killers that she can get her hands on per day. Her husband and sister are seeking alternative to 12 step treatment because she has already completed a Narcotics Anonymous 12 step program and relapsed immediately afterwards. They have researched some non-traditional treatment centers that empower the patients instead of forcing them to accept that they are powerless against drugs and alcohol. She has expressed concern over returning to a facility that continuously uses 12 step methods or enforces religion. Therefore the husband is looking for a long-term inpatient non-traditional program that offers aftercare services if needed. We helped them locate a treatment facility in Florida that fits her specific needs and she has agreed to go with the support of her family.
