Caller: 32-year old son calling on behalf of his mother
Problem: Benzodiazepines addiction
Seeking: Drug rehab options for Benzos with possible intervention
Reason(s): The son has concerns about his mother’s growing dependence on benzodiazepines. She fears that she might be struggling with benzodiazepines addiction, and has not been herself for a long period of time. He said that his mother has become lethargic, careless and does not appear to care a great deal about anything other than getting more of the same substance. He also said, “I realize that it might be really strange for a kid, even a 32-year old kid, to call someone like you for professional help for a parent, but I am not sure where else to turn.” According to the son, things have become progressively worse in the last few months, including an incident where his mother hit a few carts in a supermarket parking lot. At the time, she was impaired and under the influence of benzodiazepines. He said, “I realize that she is old enough to make her own decisions, but I want to make sure that I do everything possible to get her into treatment. I need to know what type of treatment program is going to get her the best option in relation to drug rehab, I need to make sure that she actually has a fighting chance to overcome her own problems, otherwise I fear that she might not realize how serious her problems are until they consume her”.
