Husband Will Lose Wife Unless He Enrolls In Alcohol Rehab

Caller: 36-year old wife calling on behalf of her husband

    Problem: Alcohol addiction

    Seeking: Inpatient rehab treatment options

Reason(s): A husband is asking about possible alcohol rehabilitation facilities that might have a spot available. The caller is asking on behalf her husband who has struggled with alcoholism for the better part of the last two decades. The wife stated, “For the last ten years I have cleaned up after him. I let it go when I had to clear the vomit from the bathroom because he could not hold it in and I accepted that he forgot anniversaries because he was blackout drunk. It was MY mistake that I decided to have a child with an addict, but I told him that if he does not get help after leaving our three-year old daughter alone while he went out drinking, I would take the kids, tell the court about his drinking issues and never speak to him again”. The caller is satisfied with the fact that this threat was the catalyst for change. She stated, “I am not sure if he is going to last for long in treatment, but I do know he is finally open to going. That is a step and a half for him already.” They are looking for an inpatient rehab treatment that specializes in alcoholism.

    1. We salute the wife who made a stand, put on the brave face and practiced tough love. Alcoholism is just among the few grave issues wrecking good marriages. There’s a host of other dangerous problems within couples, such as drug addiction, cheating/infidelity, incapacity to carry out responsibilities, gambling, etc.

This is why we have such huge numbers that’s ever increasing in terms of divorce and separation. But we should ask as well – is divorce or ending the marriage the solution? No. It’s when there’s no inkling of hope to make it work. Let’s not forget there’s possibly dozens or hundreds of reasons why marriages fail but it’s always overlooked the fact that it can still be saved.

How? By addressing the problem or causes of problems appropriately – AS A COUPLE! Remember, vows have been made and I don’t need to elaborate on each. But just because the husband is a drunk or the wife has become cold will the vows see the bottom of the trash can, right?

Solve the problems together… Seek help… Go to therapy… Be there for each other… Rekindle love and romance… Promise support while committing to change…

In the end, a marriage works because two people works on it!

The traditional 12 step approach looks at drug and alcohol addiction as an incurable disease. This disheartens many and makes people feel as though they are at a constant disadvantage when battling addiction. Non-traditional programs treat drug and alcohol addiction as a serious problem that can be fully addressed and resolved through treatment that is based on science and empirical evidence.
The issue with 12 step programs is that they were the first real drug and alcohol addiction treatment offered to the public. Because many realize that addiction is something that they cannot overcome by themselves, popularity boomed quickly. While the research now shows 12 step programs are almost as effective as doing nothing at all, they are still the first name associated with drug addiction by virtue of "being first."
Not all non 12 step programs are the same, which makes it important to find the right program for you or your loved one. It is important to find a long-term, holistic treatment option that treats each patient as an individual.
It is impossible to determine exactly how much non 12 step treatment costs without knowing more specifics about the prospective patient. Some programs charge more than others do. This again highlights the importance of finding a program that not only meets your needs, but is also affordable. Fortunately, many programs work with a sliding pay scale or allow you to pay for treatment in installments.
This depends on the programs and on your insurance. More and more insurance companies are realizing the need for proper alternative drug treatment and extending coverage. This is due to the better results offered by a holistic approach and the financial benefits of most patients not relapsing.
