Caller: 25-year old woman calling on behalf of her friend
Problem: Valium addiction
Seeking: Intervention specialist and possible long-term benzodiazepine recovery facility
Reason(s): The woman is concerned that her friend’s Valium addiction has begun to influence her daily life and may continue to get worse. According to the woman, her friend has since lost her job and has barely managed to get out of the house since. She said, “I guess that Valium makes you lethargic, but I have never seen anything quite like this to be honest with you. She will just lay in bed most of the day, she does not even have the television on or anything. It is like she is perfectly content just ‘being’ there by herself, immobile and doing nothing.” She said that she noticed a change a few months ago, but was first afraid to actually address the issue. Now she says that she wishes she had talked to her friend sooner. She also said, “I know that Valium can be dangerous, it can suppress your immune system and stuff? I do not know how that would help her or why she would continue to use, but I need to know what I can do to help my friend.” She thinks that the possibility of an intervention specialist to address possible options and a possible long-term benzodiazepine recovery facility would be a good idea, if the friend agrees to seek help.
